Nuru Energy (Africa)

I recently noticed a Field Partner in Africa with small loans ($50) each, Nuru Energy. They sell rechargable LED lights to places in Africa without sufficient energy.

What’s even more interesting is that their partner page says:

Nuru Energy’s products and business model are well positioned to provide access to safe, environmentally-responsible lighting to the rural poor and to have profound social impact. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to equip Nuru Energy entrepreneurs with lamps and devices to sell and service, enabling them to generate additional income. Kiva loans will be provided to Nuru VLEs at 0% interest, and each VLE will be provided with a POWERCycle to recharge lamps for customers on a regular basis.

Yet another interest-free MFI for Kiva lenders, and a “green” energy provider to boot!
